The quiet joy of games built for five minutes

The quiet joy of games built for five minutes

There's a snobbery around games that only ask for a few minutes. People assume short means shallow. After reviewing dozens of them, I think that's backwards.

Designing a loop that feels complete in five minutes is genuinely hard. The game has to reward you fast, load instantly, and leave you at a satisfying stopping point rather than mid-task. Many big games never manage that.

The best short-session games respect your time. They don't guilt you into staying, they don't bury the quit button, and they let you leave feeling good instead of trapped.

If you spend most of your gaming on buses, in queues or during ad breaks, these are the titles that actually fit your life. That's not a lesser kind of fun, it's just an honest one.
